Legend:

On the right-hand side of the browser window, you will see the graphic legend displayed.  The graphic legend shows the colors and indicators used to display data on the map.  This legend will update as you zoom in and out.

Just above the graphic legend is a hyperlink to the 'Layer Control Legend'.  This hyperlink will refresh the frame to displays a list of available map layers.  Using the 'Visible' check boxes, you can check on or off map layers to customize the display.

The map layers are displayed in the application as "scale dependent."  This means that only certain map layers will be visible depending on the scale at which the map is being displayed.  In other words, the more you zoom-in to the map, the more detail you will see. You may need to zoom-in quite close to see some map layers.

Visible Layer:
By default, certain layers have been selected to be "visible" in the map. However, you have full control over which layers to display in the map. Using the "visible" check boxes, you can check on or off map layers to customize the display. Only the checked layers will be displayed in the map. Once you have made changes, you need to click on the Refresh Map button to update the map. Note that if you have just turned on a map layer, but you don't see it displayed in the map, you may need to zoom-in closer for it to be displayed.

Active Layer:
Using the active check boxes, you can select which layer to make available for the 'Identify' tool.  Only one layer may be active at any given time.

Layer Properties:
You may change the display properties of most layers.  For example, you may change the color of features from black to red if you desire.  To make changes, click on the hyperlinked name of the layer in the 'Layer Control Legend'.  'Layer Properties' options will appear.  Change the properties of the layer by selecting options from the drop-down boxes.
